Arlest Dale Ayers was born on April 25, 1922, in Carrizo Springs, Texas. From a young age, he exhibited a love for the outdoors that would remain a constant throughout his life. Growing up in the rural Texas landscape, Arlest developed a passion for hunting, fishing, and enjoying the beauty of nature—activities that would become integral to his identity. As a young man, he set out on an adventurous life filled with hard work, a devotion to his family, and a zest for living fully.

Arlest’s deep sense of duty led him to enlist in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, where he served as a Staff Sergeant. His time in the service not only shaped his character but also instilled in him a lifelong sense of discipline, responsibility, and dedication. After his military service, he returned to civilian life and settled into a career as a skilled tradesman. He joined the United Association of Pipefitters and Plumbers (UAPP), Local 142, where he spent many years honing his craft, gaining respect from his colleagues and peers. Arlest was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to excellence in everything he did.

After retiring from Todd Ford Mechanical Contractors, Arlest’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to start Ayers Drilling, a successful water well drilling company based in Bulverde, Texas. His business became a testament to his ingenuity, determination, and passion for working with his hands, while also serving his community. Arlest was proud to contribute to the well-being of others, providing essential services in his local area.

Beyond his career, Arlest’s greatest joy came from his family. A devoted husband to Virginia for 68 years, Arlest shared a life filled with love, laughter, and mutual support. Together, they raised five daughters—Sherry, Linda, Dawn, Ginger, and Judy—instilling in them the values of hard work, respect, and a love for the outdoors. Arlest was not only a father but also a teacher, spending countless hours sharing his passion for hunting, fishing, skiing, and camping with his daughters. He passed on the skills and appreciation for nature that he had honed throughout his life, creating lasting memories with his family in the process.

As a grandfather, Arlest’s warmth and infectious humor were a constant source of joy. His grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren were the recipients of his many jokes, his singing, and his ever-positive outlook on life. His spirit and laughter filled every room he entered, and he had a unique ability to brighten even the toughest days with his warmth and light-hearted nature.

Arlest’s passing on January 26, 2011, at the age of 88, left a void in the hearts of all who knew him. However, his legacy continues to live on through the values he instilled in his family and the many memories they hold dear. Arlest’s life was a celebration of adventure, hard work, and the enduring importance of family. He was a man who found joy in the simple things, who dedicated himself to serving others, and who made a lasting impact on all those around him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Virginia Ayers; his five daughters, Sherry Moore, Linda Solis, Dawn Bachman, Ginger Hellsten, and Judy Reid; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Arlest’s family will always cherish his memory, and his legacy will continue to inspire them for generations to come.
