James Francis Legendre lived a life rich with diverse experiences and deep connections. He was born on July 13, 1936, and embarked on a journey that would shape him into the remarkable individual he became.

Starting his academic journey as a high school dropout, James defied expectations by joining the Air Force in 1954. During his service, he pursued his education, earning his diploma and taking college courses while stationed in England. He later graduated from SAC in 1967 and seized the opportunity to further his studies under Operation Bootstrap, earning his BA degree from St. Mary's in 1971. Continuing his academic pursuits, he obtained his MA degree in 1974, all while serving his country with dedication and distinction.

After relocating to Bulverde in 1973, James became deeply involved in his community, particularly at St. Joseph-Honey Creek Church. His commitment to service led him to undergo a three-year course at Oblate Seminary, culminating in his ordination as a Deacon on April 5, 1982, a role he cherished for over three decades.

Throughout his military and civilian careers, James's contributions were diverse and impactful. From food and meat inspection on the London docks to teaching gnotobiotics at Brooks AFB, his work spanned a range of fields, including animal research and medical course development for the Army.

James's journey was guided by a steadfast devotion to his family, whom he cherished deeply. He leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience, survived by his wife of 56 years, Arlene, and their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

As he peacefully entered into eternal rest on April 4, 2015, James was surrounded by the love of his family and the gratitude of all those whose lives he touched. Though he is dearly missed, his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who were privileged to know him.
