After rigorous training at Moore Field in McAllen, Texas, Charles earned his wings and joined the 308th Fighter Squadron of the 31st Fighter Group. Flying the iconic P-51 Mustang Fighters, he served with distinction from 1943 to 1945, bravely defending freedom and democracy in the skies over Europe.

Upon completing his service in the Army Air Corps, Charles transitioned to the United States Air Force, where he continued to contribute his talents and skills until his honorable discharge in 1952.
