He went on to carve a distinguished career as a petroleum geologist, forming a successful partnership that spanned forty-two years. Ernie's expertise and contributions to the oil and gas industry in San Antonio were widely respected, earning him a place among the esteemed members of the Southwest Geological Society.

However, Ernie's true joy lay in his role as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He poured his time and energy into creating lasting memories with his beloved family. Whether spending quality time with his children and grandchildren in Sabinal, Texas, or tending to his horses on his ranch in Rio Medina, Ernie found fulfillment in the simple pleasures of life.

His passing on May 30, 2012, marked the end of a life well-lived, defined by love, laughter, and cherished moments. While he is preceded in death by his father and mother, Ernest Valentine and Rosalie Haack, Ernie's spirit lives on in the hearts of his loving family.
